What is Ketamine Assisted Therapy?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines safe, legal ketamine treatment with talk therapy to help people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health issues—especially when other treatments haven’t worked. A licensed therapist guides the therapy, while Journey Clinical’s medical team handles the medical side, including eligibility, prescriptions, and follow-up. KAP aims to create deep, lasting healing by addressing the root causes of emotional pain.
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe, and effective medicine used to treat mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It works quickly—often within hours—and can improve mood for up to two weeks. Ketamine boosts brain flexibility (neuroplasticity), helping form new connections that support healing. At Journey Clinical, ketamine is taken as a dissolvable tablet (called a sublingual lozenge), making it more affordable and accessible for therapy in different settings.
What does Ketamine feel like?
The effects of ketamine last about 45 minutes and are usually described as pleasant and expansive. You may feel “far from” your body, which can create space from habitual thoughts and offer new perspectives on trauma. During this time, your ability to move or speak will be reduced, so you’ll rest in a comfortable position. After the effects wear off, we’ll spend time processing and discussing your experience. Though hard to put into words, many clients find the insights gained are clear and meaningful. Benefits to mood and brain growth can last up to two weeks.
How Does Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Work?
Initial Free 15-Minute Consult with Amanda: Time to review your interest in Ketamine Assisted Therapy, answer any questions, and make sure we’re a good fit.
Book Your Medical Consultation: I’ll send you a link to schedule with Journey Clinical’s medical team over Zoom for an evaluation. They’ll review your history, explain the treatment, and determine if you’re eligible. If approved, they’ll create a personalized prescription and send ketamine lozenges to your home, along with instructions for taking vitals and self-administering the medicine. If you're not eligible, you’ll receive a full refund.
Preparation Session: Once your ketamine lozenges arrive, we’ll schedule your preparation, dosing, and integration sessions. Preparation sessions, held like regular therapy appointments, help us align on the process and set intentions for your KAP experience.
Dosing Session: A typical ketamine dosing session lasts about 2-3 hours and can take place in person or via telehealth. You’ll self-administer your lozenge while resting in a comfortable position with an eye mask and calming music. I’ll be present throughout to support you and hold space for your experience.
Integration Session: After our KAP dosing session, we will meet for an integration therapy session to review the memories, thoughts and insights that arose during your dosing session, and to prepare for the next dosing session.
Follow-up consultations with Journey Clinical: After our second KAP session, Journey Clinical’s medical team schedules regular follow-ups with you to monitor outcomes and prescribe ketamine lozenge refills, as appropriate. The frequency of follow-ups depends on your unique treatment plan. The frequency of follow-ups depends on your unique treatment plan, at a minimum of once per quarter.
